As a wedding photographer, I will help you determine how many hours of photography you will need. The more prepared you are, the more fun you will get at your wedding—plan to avoid additional stress on your special day. Here are some essential things to consider. Knowing the number of guests you’re planning to invite is best before determining the hours of wedding photography you need. The more guests, the more people you’ll need to manage. Thus, it will take time to document. A traditional wedding usually needs about five to fifteen hours of coverage.
If you like to capture moments of your make-up and your wedding dress zipped up, you have to reserve about two hours only for this shoot alone. That might be pictures of your wedding accessories and clothing, a love letter exchange, your groom’s getting ready, and many other details you might want to capture.

I had successfully captured weddings with or without a first look. If you want my advice, then I often recommend it. Based on my experience, we can usually add around 60 minutes just for portraits of the couple. And most couples typically opt for the first look to finish all the formal pictures before the ceremony. This way, I can calmly walk among the guests and catch the real moments of reportage shooting while newlyweds are enjoying their cocktail hour and the rest of the evening without worrying about the photo timeline. It’s really up to you how you want to remember your special day!

If you’re a couple with a vast family and wedding party, you must consider you might need more time than the basic seven eight-hour coverage. The more people you manage, the more time you need to document your day. Usually, I can achieve group portraits in under 60 minutes if everything is planned.
Also, it would help if you plan and consider determining your hours of wedding photography as travel from the getting-ready location to the ceremony and then to the party area. It’s cool if everything goes in one place. But if you celebrate your wedding in different places, planning travel time from one place to another is best.
Can you show yourself the look of the party area before everyone comes?
Take care of how it looks, all the decorations, wedding cake, centerpieces, candelabra, flowers, dessert table, and all the beautiful details. It will be cool to have images of all that details because, most often, couples would not know what the party area looks like beforehand. I usually spend 30-40 minutes taking photos of all the details. But it would help if you remembered the place needs to be free from people to get a 'spotless' image of the room. So this is another moment you will need to insert into the timeline.
